LIU Toy Design Show
What would middle-schoolers make if they knew how to use a 3D Printer? For students of Long Island University's Advantage Program, it might be a prototype of the next hit toy.
As a visiting instructor, I organized an end-of-the-year showcase for the new Toy Design course offering. With the aid of a slide ruler, the 3D-modelling software TinkerCad, and a 3D Printer, students learned to physically materialize their ideas that started on paper. The designs were displayed on a custom-fabricated underlit pedestal which highlighted the translucency of the pieces by making them glow. The show garnered the attention and awe of students, parents, school staff, and passers by.
